Best website hosting for an dev profolio and subdomains like go daddy, but can support web apps like discourse or ruby?

    digitalocean maybe? not really web hosting company but you can set things up yourselve.

    host it yourself with a raspberry pi and cloudflare cdn for caching. You pay once 30 bucks and have the freedom to host what ever your heart desires.
    node, python django, php, ruby, serverside swift - you name it.

    openshift is free of charge and supporta custom domain. can run any thing ranging from wordpress to apps developed in go. also DIY cartridges are also available. nice documentation comes handy.

    I like digital ocean. Haven't had a problem unless you consider the ones where I made the mistake lol

    get a RaspberryPi and get a domain name and install anything you really want....

    I get a vps from hostwinds for my personal projects. (widows vps). They have Linux vps as well as shared hosting accounts. The prices are very reasonable and the customer support is top notch.

    I had done shared hosting, but if you want to anything more than a really basic website, vps is the way to go.
