how can people have personal preference its so weird, its almost like free will and subjectiveness are things

I use light theme when I'm in a well lit room. I feel better like that, dark themes make my eyes hurt.

@Matthewb I'm not saying people shouldn't have a free will or a personal preference, I'm just wondering how some people chose a light ide rather than a dark one.

It's perfectly OK for anyone to use a light theme. What's not ok is for an IDE not to have a decent dark theme. #eclipse

I recently had some coworkers switch to light themes after years of dark themes. Claim eye strain in well lit rooms.

Some people have (fysical) windows in their office and glossy screens. Unless you want to stare at your own dumb face all day, a light theme is a must.

I use eclipse at my job so switching from the default is a pain because you have to do it for every workspace and it has to be customized. If I could though I would use Intellij since it has a dark theme by default but we use tfs so that's a no go.

@edisonn lol It really is. The only reason we use eclipse is because we use demandware which only has a plugin for Eclipse otherwise I would have jump ship by now. I know one developer that was able to get phpstorm to work but the older developers don't like it.

Stackoverflow is light themed. Would hurt eyes to use dark themed editor.

Every single dark theme I've ever seen has crap text colors. There's always at least one element that for whatever reason uses some color that's really hard to distinguish from the background.

@NoNameCode aww I thought it was intentional

@HTahboub let me re iterate my point of "personal preference"

Because it helps me avoid the temptation to stare at my screen for five hours when I get stuck somewhere. Once my eyes start to hurt I know it's time to go for a walk.
