When you switch tabs on Safari (iPhone) and it inexplicably tries to reload the page... when you have no connection 😡

As far as I know, it's not reloading, just loading. Background tabs use a still image of the page rather than the page itself. When you switch tabs it loads the page in place of the image. gives the appearance of multi-tasking without the memory overhead. It's a nifty UX trick on fast connections, less so on slower ones.

I'm no app dev but that's how I understand iOS does it. Same applies to background apps when switching. Very occasionally you'll catch it glitching which reveals the fact that it's an image and not a view.

Can any apps devs out there confirm?

You Can add a loading image for your app when it starts. Just an image of your first page without any data loaded.
