What OS do you need? Personally I wouldn't get a Mac unless you want osx or unless your an iOS developer etc...

@spl0 you can run anything on mac. I am running fed on it, I love the hardware. in this fucking world no one can assemble it better than apple.

@rookiemaverick You're right about the hardware, apple does make greatly designed computers.

But for the price of mac you get anything else that will be better choice... In my opinion macs are great when you have enough budget to pay for premium product and get the best thing money can buy. On limited budget especially under 8-900 other brands have sometimes better offers...

@rookiemaverick I used to have a macbook pro. Used it for a few years, then got fed up with it.

I remember it was awkward to find the pipe symbol - bit essential on a 'unix' box :-)

You're right about the hardware; it was the best laptop I could find at the time, so I put up with OSX. Mostly ran vmware on it anyway!

I see a lot of macs suggestions, which is all good. But you should look into the Dell xps 13 or 15

Mac's are not really Linux boxes. They are OSX boxes.

If you happen to have one, sure you can run linux on it. Would I buy one to run linux on? No.

Buy a more 'open' computer instead.

    Thinkpads are good workhorses.
