I am about to buy a ded. server for the first time in my career for a SaaS project (also first time envolved in a huge project like this) and the first that I am full time dev and full time team leader. I am excited as fuck about this.

Q: Anybody works with Linode ded. servers before? Any alternative host company better than this?

I'd don't know if it's what you are looking for, but had you heard of digital ocean?

@nwestfall yeah, I heard a lot about DO to, but its a lil bit documentation less instead Linode, I guess. Isn't it?

@neilm thank you, didn't heard this before. It seems a bit expensive and I can't even find the Hardware specs.

Linode has been very reliable for me.
also just upgraded the RAM on their servers.

Although if it fits the budget I'd look at some kind of app service. Google cloud, aws, heroku, azure. that kind of thing. Saves you a lot of server maintenance

Linode vs Digitalocean: Not much difference imo.

DO has a 5 dollar plan, which is nice for small one off things. Linode offers more RAM though for the same price (starting at 10 dollars)

@morgh This host is for a web app. I will need apache, php, postgres, node, and some ffmpeg script to convert video and then transfer it to the cloud (B2's Blackbaze, we guess). I am torn between Linode and Digital Ocean right now

@fiskolin what kind of documentation are you looking for? Spinning up servers and managing them in their admin portal is as a way as can be. If I ever had a question, the answer is always on their community site and if it wasn't, tech support always got back to me within 24 hours. They also have an API so you could have your server spin up new servers or add more resources if needed automatically.

@nwestfall If you really want a vps and you're torn between do and linode. Go with Linode. they give twice as much ram for the same price

I ended up getting Linode: twice of the RAM for half of the price. No doubt after 3 days using it
