@KyleSoBold The hash symbol is commonly used (in the UK at least) as a short hand for number.

And given that the English invented English, then we are automatically right in every English language argument ever. #jussayin

The purpose of a hashtag is actually pretty smart and is used in many places outside of Twitter. Unfortunately it just gets abused to shit and is pretty useless now. 🙁
