The easiest way to listen to music on iPhone 7 while charging from MacBook Pro 2016 (9gag)

Also who the fuck listens to music on their iPhone while working at their desktop, like seriously there's an AUX port right there on the MacBook Pro also I'm like 99% sure you can now buy a lightning to USB Type C cable so what the fuck?
  • 8
@hidden that's not the point.... I would I hate computers syncing my files .... if I put my music on my phone (like everyone does) but I don't like syncing ... What choice do I have

The point, is you should never need to buy that many cables to do two simple things.

Why are you guys defending it?

You have to currently buy apple cables.. if you don't you can break your devices @gnaaah

You guys can spend 200 quid in cables if you like.... I ain't... That and apple cables break every few months

Um the music app on the iPhone syncs automatically over wifi with iTunes on a mac, the mac still has an AUX port so you don't need to buy an adaptor to use it in fact given Apple literally give you a lightning to AUX cable really to have that set up the only cable you'll need is a lightning to USB C cable which given the way USB B is allegedly going to go, souls last a long time as long as you look after it

@FitzSuperUser I don't defend Apples plan on selling more accessories to compensate tumbling device sales. I hate that as much as everybody else.
But I think most people that rant about dropping the headphone jack have very weak arguments.
  • 3
@gnaaah I didn't post it as an argument against anything, I just found it funny and wanted to share, that is the point of rants here, is it not :-) ?
  • 2
    @hidden yes but I said I didn't want syncing ?

That setup would be the only solution for someone who doesn't want to sync but has their music on their phone... Which I don't think is a insignificant amount of people to overlook
  • 2
@MartinZikmund thats half the reason of posts 😏

@gnaaah to be honest I hate apple πŸ€”πŸ˜ but I think the argument is a good one ... To remove a universal jack so no aux cable or all headphones you have now don't work is a good argument (or do work if you spend more money on another cable )
  • 0
I'm sorry but it is a rather insignificant number of people as if you buy through the iTunes store it's automatically synced, if you buy through an external store you can access it online normally or through some 3rd party software, the only way in this day and age to really have unsynced music on an iPhone is via illegal downloads, and to be honest I don't see apple purposefully building a system to make it too easy for people doing that. Also that wouldn't be the only set up as wireless earphones for like under £20 are still a thing
  • 2
@hidden your to apple fan boy for me ....
  • 1
@hidden I don't have an iPhone (I am invested in MSFT ecosystem), but if I once have it, I still couldn't trade my Bose QuietComfort 20 for any wireless headphones now :-D . Maybe they will update them with a wireless version sometime, but until then, I really need the cable :-D .
  • 2
The post is simply saying that's how it's done. Either you do it often or not, all the post is saying that you'll have to go through these many cables to be able to listen to music of your iPhone 7 while charging it from your MacBook 2016.
  • 2
Apple wants to sell more stupid 50$ cables :)
  • -1
@FitzSuperUser No (for goodness sake I only own 2 apple products) and clearly you have no rebuttal for my point

@suprano And all I'm saying is the post is in fact stupid as if the music is on your iPhone it will almost certainly be on your MacBook Pro, therefore why are you nothing to use all those cables, it's just drama for the the sake of drama and has no actual point in real life because realistically who is going to do that when they can just plug headphones into the mac and change using one cable?

@MartinZikmund You see that's fair enough as you wouldn't have an issue anyway with listening using those headphones as you could just plug straight into the mac

@Ksenchy Yes that's exactly it, because it's totally not as if they gave away an adaptor with every iPhone 7 and this could be done without all that bs by plugging the headphones straight into the mac and the iPhone straight into the Mac using a lightning to USB C cable (which isn't that bad for price as its only £15)

    @hidden good for you.
  • 1
Why not listen to music through the laptop?...... it syncs anyway, so might aswell plug the AUX into that
  • 1
You can even sync your illegal music too.. the "I dont want to sync"-argument is invalid..

"Well I dont want a computer made my Microsoft" - I just made a valid argument to why Microsoft sucks. At least following the above logic.

I'm not following Apple blindly (hardly) but this is just trying to be difficult.. it's annoying.

    @hidden ok fine πŸ˜‚,

Wireless listening to songs is terrible..
I personally hate apple, but how can you possibly be on their side this gen ?

They made minor improvements , and everuthing they have is designed to make you buy more of their products.

I don't want my music synced because I have an ssd ... I don't want files being transferred on it unless I say so but apple put you in that position. ( I own no apple products) but I have worked with them enough.

Now I think you'd pushing what you and your friends do and saying the majority does that.

But the op has shown people want to use their products in different ways .. apple don't want that ... How's that fair?
  • 4
I listen to music on my phone while charging it from a laptop every day at work....
  • 3
@hidden The arrangement that OP posted isn't as uncommon as you think. Quite often macbooks are used as workstations issued by the company. And if they are company owned, many restrictions (or just personal preferences) might apply - like no syncing with personal account or no storing of personal data (like music files). What is the workaround then? Use your phone to listen to the music and charge it from your computer :) Sure there is wireless, but as far as I can tell, cables still provide better quality and lower price.
  • 3
@FitzSuperUser I actually only listen to downloaded songs because I like listining to the track two times in a row
So I can not use a music service easily (or I'll have to make a playlist with 700+ songs so a total of 1400+ songs)
  • 1
@n1had I got the notification for this 25 minutes late πŸ€” , but proves people want to use tech in different ways
  • 0
How is an SSD a reason to avoid sync...?
  • 2
    Apple fans butthurt :)
  • 1
@SithLord The size is the limit. Especially while using multiple vm images or containers (or dualbooting).
  • 1
@SithLord cause you get a write limit on ssds now sync is only meant to upload files you don't already have but ssds are small... They get filled easily so you delete... Then they fill... Write limit gets hit ... Ssd is fucked...

    Yeah ... Not good
  • 2
@SithLord SSD's only have so many reads/writes per day/total in theory. So syncing back and forth, especially if it wasn't a delta load, would add up. That's why I run Chrome on a RAMdisk not on the drive. (Google how much activity a browser has at idle!) I've compiled many kernels in one day on my Nvme drive, well beyond the daily limit, and S.M.A.R.T. stats still show 99%, so not sure if those rules still apply in reality. I should use my other SSD for that but I don't..

I figure the productivity gain of 3/1 Gb/s random R/write is worth it. πŸ˜‰

Honestly it's only really taxing times like that when you even notice a difference over say a Samsung 850.. outside something artificial like a benchmark. πŸ˜‹
  • 0
It's too High Tech for me...
  • 0
I hardly imagine it being so limited that syncing should be a problem. What about dropbox, and general work? When you're running composer install, and write a gazillion small files..
  • 0
I dont even care to respond to dontbeevil.. kid is so annoying.

DevRant should have a block button :)
  • 0
@SithLord taking about laptops etc... I.e the new Mac , My main PC has multiple drives so ain't an issue πŸ˜….
  • 0
@FitzSuperUser the Mac flash storage will last long beyond eg. Samsung 850 SSD's and they'll easily last 300 TB of writesπŸ˜…

I'm receiving my 500GB MacBook soon and if it just lasts 300TB of writes, I'll have to write the entire disc 600 times. :o) At that time, SSD's will be even cheaper and I'll throw a new one into it

But I see the point, I dont think it's a valid reason to not sync but I get the point
  • 2
@SithLord why ... Have it on your laptop when you have it on your phone.... I mean you always have your phone , why use the memory on your laptop... just logical to me bit we all different!

Plus I'd never own a Mac πŸ˜‚ remember this is someone needing a ridiculous amount of cables to listen to their music on their phone on charge
  • 1
@FitzSuperUser I also always have my laptop on me, and I dont also use headphones every time I listen to music :) - I dont use converters to use my wires.
  • 0
    Hitler
  • 2
You should probably just listen to music on the MacBook. It still has a headphone jack.
  • 0
    @tbodt we've been through thisπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  • 0
@tbodt which is actually weird. They had the "courage" to remove the jack from phone, but apparently didn't have enough courage to remove it from laptops :-D

@FitzSuperUser I don't know which I'm more sick of hearing (not aimed at you, just wanted to vent!) ; anything re: the election next week or the stupid aux port. Like it? Can afford it? Buy it, else don't. Done πŸ€— I know I'm not the first to say that but man.. If you like candidate A then vote B || don't vote && either way internalize it and carry on 😘

DevRant would be amazing (even more so, duh!) If we had a permanent board of retired and off limits topics! Once a topic received X% votes to retire it's off limits. punishment by sending accounts to /dev/null (or whatever your OS equivalent is) πŸ™‚

@stable-penguin ... You can just... Not read it 😏
  • 0
@FitzSuperUser 1) touché 2) I really wasn't aiming that at you. It just seems that even if a rant starts about elephants in Antarctica (sarcasm for anyone reading this...) somewhere along the way any number of about 10 topics I can think of will be brought up as a "gotcha!". But fair enough. It is in the title (rants).. I walked into that one : /
  • 0
    @stable-penguin 😏 haha, I know you weren't ... I'm just an easy target πŸ€• πŸ˜‰
  • 0
@FitzSuperUser it was kinda like, "ah speaking of that aux port that is spoken of so often"

Sorry if it came across as rude or offensive!

Your post honestly just reminded of something I'd been internally thinking for the past week or so on here..so I linked/used it as the launchpad : / the election bit was a semi-related rant against friends and family that go on about the politics situation in the US. But they'll never see it as I didn't post it to fb lol
  • 1
@FitzSuperUser that's the beauty of it, you can adapt technology to suit your needs 😎
  • 0
@gnaaah even though I don't use any apple stuff, in my case, everyday all day at my internship really :P
