So just today I stumbled upon Deepin OS (Linux Distro based on Debian) and it looks amazing! Arguably even better than Elementary OS :D Has anyone else used this distro/what do you think?

I'm very happy with Ubuntu and I wouldn't dare to try it, but it did look awesome.. here some more screenshots: http://tecmint.com/deepin-os-15-ins...

@n1had They built their own: the Deepin desktop environment (DDE).

@ErwinJanssen Indeed and it is one of the most polished ones I've seen

I'm so tempted. Might install it soon.

I saw this in an article I was reading just now. It does look pretty nice.

    Here's the article I was reading :

There's so much awesome Linux dists nowadays, but somehow Debian (as old school as it is) still holds a fond place for me.

As someone using elementary OS this actually looks pretty good

Can you install just the DE on Ubuntu gnome? Don't feel like reinstalling

    THANK YOU!
I stumbled across this distro 3 years ago, when it was still in alpha or something. I tried to run it, but it didn't support my laptops GPU at the time. And that was it... But since that time, I've tried to remember the name, and search for it a bunch of times, but couldn't find it for nothing...
So thank you, you just solved a 3 year long "brain fart" :D

Why it's trying to copy windows 10 UI ?

Why would you want an OS that looks like Windows? ;)

@JakeHL @wolfram if you're talking about the taskbar I actually switched to this mode to see :D by default it comes with a "dock like" taskbar.

also why would you even bother and the reason is for people coming from Windows (especially older people as I was looking around for maybe a viable Linux distro for my grandparents which are over 80). This would make a transition way easier because it is more familiar

@1geek0 I do know there is a Manjaro version with the Deepin DE, but when it comes to installing it on Ubuntu I'm not sure

@tjamesop Very true! I was on Elementary before as well for the looks but now I may be sold on this

Just wondering, isn't deepin UI built on HTML5? I don't remember if it was deepin or a different distro

Actually you can try Deepin without installing their OS. Worked for me on my Arch. But still I love my tiled WM more :)

@andunai Can you? Because from the ISO I had since it is Debian based I had to install it (no other option available on disc)

@liammartens yep. Got it in community repo, as well as all the basic utils. You can as well try building from source.
Deepin is nice, especially the sidebar with "configure everything" tabs

Used to use it, prefer elementary though

I run the manjaro version. I LOVE it. (Except when manjaro breaks)

What hypervisor are you using? VMWare or VirtualBox or something else?
  • 1
@Jonaskeuh I usually just use virtualbox or simply dual boot
