Fuck Microsoft! 😡
I bought the new xBox One S....
Turns out it's not compatible with my home network and you can't set it up without an internet connection.
Ended up using my phone data (2GB used) just so I could do the updates required to watch a 4K movie.
Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait for the new internet connection arriving Monday 😔

@azuredivay nah I've got a shitty hotel style wifi you need to login via the web. There is a way to hack it by spoofing the mac however I think the developers failed to test that feature in setup mode as it wouldn't save and I'm pretty sure you need to reboot, which restarts the setup process.
Got a real connection happening next week though 😊

So you're mad at MS because you have something incompatible with their product? Hmmm 🤔

@ScribeOfGoD are you a fanboy or something?
    Let me re-cap:
A: they don't support a very common form of wifi and fail to mention this on their website.
B: the feature that would let me bypass said problem doesn't work in setup mode because it requires a reboot(wiping the settings), not to mention the fact it bugs out and doesn't even save.
So yes, the problem is completely mine. I see the error of my way. Thank you, wise scribe of god. You saved me from myself

@fSociety nope not a fan boy, I actually use OSX, Linux and Mac when working so I don't care about Linux vs mac vs windows as I see it as pointless. To each their own

What the other guy said, you're mad because you use an uncommon home WiFi setup?

Had a similar problem with hotel style wifi portal login with Chromecast. Ended up creating an adhoc wifi network from a laptop sharing its ethernet. Of course, if you don't have Ethernet available, probably not an option for you.
