I don't have a ton of friends, but I do have a few. None of them can code (one has tried HTML/CSS and didn't get past the fundamentals). When I make something cool, and show it off to my friends they just don't understand the struggles and triumphs that were involved in that project. As a beginner/intermediate dev, feedback is huge and no one I know in person can give it to me. There are a couple people I chat with online that help me with my projects, but that's nothing like sitting down with someone and listening to their feedback, suggestions, ect.

Why do my friends have to be so non-techy?

Yeh I know them feels and it sucks I feel ya, you can always try seeing if there's any like coding community or just any kind of IT community around you can attach to. Even though it is cool to physically sit down with people and get feedback I find getting feedback from people online is just is good also.

Ultimately you could just get ya mates interested in coding/tech savvy shit but just talking about it to them enough lmao.

I'll be your code buddy. We can pair up on screenhero. @sheriffderek

@sheriffderek I don't have an account and it looks like they're temporarily not accepting new users due to their integration with slack :( but I'm super grateful for the offer, and when they're accepting new users again I'll have to give that a go!

@httpjordd I've slowly been converting my boyfriend to the dark side(not by his choice lol). He doesn't know a lick of code but is beginning to appreciate the effort put into the projects at least. I just can't get too technical/jargon-y with my explanations or he falls asleep (literally. It's happened haha)

@prehistoricoreo oml lmao I can't say I've had some one fall asleep while I'm talking coding jargon yet! That's great 😂

    Agree with you

@prehistoricoreo give me your email and I'll invite you, either way.

I've lost contact with all my non-dev friends. Time came when we no longer had common interests and spending time together started to feel like wasted time.

    Sad but true.

loneliness is my enemy too. you are right, as a developer ( please read: human), we need others. and because we spend more time in computer, people may think we're antisocial. we need community though. maybe we can hang out and talk about anything

Not sure where you are, but maybe look for some area user groups?

Not only do non-technical people fail to appreciate what they're seeing, they also have a habit of dwelling on some inconsequential detail and ignoring the entire point. Have some "lorem ipsum sit amet" filler text in there, and they won't be able to see beyond it: "Why are you showing me Latin?"..."but I can't understand it"..."So it's just gibberish?"..."Why is it gibberish?".

Yeah it'd be cool to have a real friend who codes

Same here, I feel so lonely, as no one near me understands anything. Also, they aren't tech events/hackatons near me, so I can't do anything socially :(
