I just won a debate defending mass surveillance and I hate myself.
I actually used Snowden to defend it.

I'm for it as long as multiple agencies are in control so no one agency can run a riot with it.

One of two things will happen we admit to not being able to have full privacy or two we remove the ability to spy which will likely get people killed

@FitzSuperUser The problem is that (which many studies and leaks have showed) that mass surveillance doesn't help against terrorism etc. Targeted surveillance does. For as long as intelligence agencies will have powers to abuse mass surveillance techniques, they will. For example (don't have sources but read it at multiple places a few months after), the French govt started pushing crypto backdoors after the Paris attacks. The terrorists used normal texting and the PlayStation network which are both integrated in mass surveillance networks. They even got concrete anonymous tips months before it happened. Then you start to wonder what they actually do with all the mass surveillance data. Nahh, I'll keep using highly encrypted communications.
