Anything with 16 or 32GB ram and a big SSD, avoid the macbook air (it can't be bought with more than 8GB ram and that ram is soldered to the motherboard, upgrading is extremely challenging).

The only apple laptop worth buying is the macbook pro, If you want something with similar specs at a lower price you should go with the lenovo thinkpad p50(up to 64GB ram) or for something a bit lower end the dell xps line is pretty ok.

If you need good game or vr performance the asus ROG line is pretty solid and reasonably priced.

If you want something really cheap but still ok you should look for anything with a core i3 cpu 1x8GB ram and one free RAM slot, don't select extra ram from the vendor (They tend to overcharge quite a bit so it is better to just buy the same module separately and install it yourself)
