I'd say this can't be current, but there VS Code is at the top of the list. Who knew.
  • 7
Maybe it goes by downloads. I am sure heaps of people have it and may not actually use it.
  • 9
Well. I have it and use it but not as my primary :)

But when I have to tinker with old asp or just have to look at a file and dont need the whole vs.

(when I'm on windows)I don't use it for development, it's my replacement of Windows notepad

    I use jet brains products

@Letmecode You sure you're not talking about Eclipse?
  • 3
@Letmecode depends on the system specs. visual studio is quite fast on my laptop.

I used to like Notepad++ but VS Code is just brilliant, a really good copy of sublime.

@mjunaid106 VS code is fantastic except when it tries to autocomplete my comments! I couldn't find a way to stop this so moved back to Atom

Windows users use notepad++ very often as we use sublime in Linux. And to the more stupid fact, new comers in frontend tech also use notepad++.

Brackets is not even on the list :(

@jugzy I switched to Atom from Brackets. It just feels better at this point.

    @Voxera same here.

I am nut share but I think that the question was witch editor is installed on your computer. And even though I don't use notepad++ as an ide I have it installed on all my machines as an replacement for the original notepad.

Me when doing pseudo code (with syntax highlighting 😍)

VS is great. Eclipse is not.
Atom on the one Win. machine I had it on felt super slow, Linux was much faster
Notepad++ is great for small things / quick fixes
VS Code I'm still getting my bearings, but so far it's enjoyable and I'm glad to have it
Even after asking about it here, I'm still not sold on Vim

I use it to look at jsons, I guess that's the use case for others

I use Notepad++ to open anything! I have it on my Windows machine. Always.

Well everyone has downloaded Notepad++ but use it as daily basis ? Not sure 'bout that
  • 2
@Letmecode it also happens to have the most extensive and powerful debugger on the market.

So many JS frameworks out in the wild and WebStorm didn't even make it on the list?
  • 0
@varundey This list is actually for desktop dev. But it's not on the one for web either. Strange. https://stackoverflow.com/insights/...

Am I the only one here that's curious about how they calculate their percentages?
  • 0
@varundey I don't think many programmers want to pay for an IDE like that.
  • 1
    @jonatan (#ppl_who_say_they_use_notepad++/#ppl) * 100?
  • 0
@calmyourtities are you kidding me? It is one of the best IDE I have worked with. Thousands of plugins, built in browser support, awesome unit test support and fully customizable. Everyone in my company is a fan of JetBrains and the team I am currently in, works on WebStorm only as it reduces the amount of time spent by at least around 40%

@bedfordian oh crap. It just didn't make sense to me that the percentages passed 100 until now.. of course people use multiple editors..

Yay Netbeans is also in the list :D

I use notepad++ for copy pasting error stack trace and logs :/

    Anyone use Bluefish?
  • 5
I hate it when my senior dev uses notepad++ when debugging while I use sublime. It freakin' breaks all the indention I made.

@jugzy my thoughts exactly. And its so nice

I use notepad++ to store temporary notes/stuff without saving. Just open up a new tab type/paste and it's still there when you fire it up again. Also encoding changes are a breeze. Everyday tool and loving it.

The TextFX plugin for np++ is actually quite powerful. Use it often for some lazy clickyclicky regexing or converting stuff...
