Btw, i got 1 tb gdrive space for free 2 years. I'll probably pay for them after free period expires.

@HoloDreamer just 2yrs? Pfftt... This is forever.. Or so they say.

I don't store anything important on it so should be ok. Also it can download BT directly.

You also get free space for Mega cloud storage. But you can just use git for projects.

You can get up to 10To on hubiC for a good price (IMO)

    https://hubic.com/en/offers/

@Jilano Wtf that pricing Oo. What's your experience with them?
  • 0
@Jilano I don't even need 1tb but my point was why is are Western companies so stingy.. Or capitalist...

@linuxxx I only use the free version (25GB up to 50GB with referal program) and so far so good :)

PS: I mainly use or with small files though
  • 0
@billgates If it suits your needs, keep using it :)
  • 1
@Jilano I'll try it... Can encrypt everything myself and 5 euro a month is manageable as hell =)
  • 1
@linuxxx You can start with the free version to try it out ;)

(Pro tip: Use throw away emails to reach the max storage)

    Tell me how it goes!

I use Google Drive, iCloud and OneDrive for different things. Altogether I have 600 gig and the cost is less than $10 a month.
For a professional working in the US, it's practically free and hosted at companies that take security very seriously - one lunch can cost more these days.

@codeblue The main reason I don't user those services is although they take security very serious, they disregard privacy. But, if it works for you, who am I to judge!
  • 1
@linuxxx if you want privacy, I guess you shouldn't own any electronic device except for ps1's etc
  • 1
@devs You can still try to retain bit of your privacy using selected services.
  • 0
@Jilano Well yes I guess, to some extend. I just think it's quite difficult retain privacy without living alone somewhere in the woods
  • 0
@devs It's not choosing between privacy OR the internet. You can use a lot of software and services which allow you to retain a certain amount of privacy which is still pretty high
  • 0
@devs You can for example use a fully open source os, services like Signal and Tutanota/Protonmail, duckduckgo/searx.me and so on
  • 0
@linuxxx But are these services as well built then? I often think that being private also means loosing a lot of useful functionality. An example: I currently use google business for email with my custom domain, because it offers many advanced filters, methods of categorising mails and creating scripts to sort and do specific things depending on the contents of the mail
  • 1
@devs I find that tutanota offers more features than I use really and I noticed that Signal even has more features than whatsapp for example. They're not worse by default, just more privacy friendly :)

Yes, tutanota has less features than gmail but I'll happily give that up for my data not being sold and analyzed etc (personal preference though).

@linuxxx I use signal too, however most people that I talk to don't. In fact, I only have 1 contact in signal, so that's a thing too
  • 0
@devs very very true. Had that problem myself but then more and more people started using it so now about everyone I talk to often/usually has it as well, lucky me!

In my university, they give us unlimited free Google drive space 💕

I have my own dedicated server. Among many many many other things, it has an instance of OwnCloud installed on it. As much space as i care to build the RAID array to, completely private and not in anyone elses "cloud".

@linuxxx I'm googles bitch and I'm ok with it tbh.
  • 0
@yusijs Well, in the end it all comes down to that: What am I willing to sacrifice? A bit of functionality? Privacy? Etc.

But as long as you're happy with the service you're using, I see no problem un that ;)
  • 0
@Jilano Tbh, with services like MEGA, I don't think you have to sacrifice much anymore
  • 0
@linuxxx True enough. Now we just need to see how long that one is going to stay alive :D

(It's been quite a while already, hasn't it?)
  • 1
@Jilano I think three to four years? And then, Tutanota grew with 500000 users in the past few months, signal explodes in new user amounts every day, megaupload 2.0 is coming.... This years going to be good!

@Jilano Where do you live around by the way? Idk randomly wondering haha
  • 0
    @linuxxx France

I didn't know about Tutanota, gonna take a look (I've discovered at least 3 services thanks to you!)
  • 0
@Jilano Oo which ones if I may ask? 😄
  • 0
@linuxxx I'll tell you that as soon as I have the patience to go through my comments ^^

    But you have!

    @Jilano Fair enough xD
