Recent boot camp grad here with a solid portfolio...holy crap...this industry is so illogical...got a call from a recruiter whose job needs 3 years experience. I demonstrated I know every single one of the requirements, have implemented them, know pros and cons, etc. She says OK I'll run it by my manager and see because we can't fill the spot and it requires 3 years but you meet all the qualifications. I get an email the next day, and she says sorry, we actually need 5 years...fucking face palm...I'll apply again in 5 years because that job will still be open. Really sucks that the only thing holding me back from landing a job is experience, not knowledge. No employer wants to touch me with a 10 foot pole...how long will it take be to find a job...jesus christ.

Lie a bit about your years of experience.

Surely before the bootcamp you have written some code for someone.

@nickpapoutsis all I did was make some static html stuff with my dad before when I was 10...I really didnt...I've been trying not to lie but holy crap...really annoying. And also you of course can't count learning and making projects on your own as experience...even tho that's basically what you do on the job. .really dumb.

Code this entire weekend and build something cool.

Then get one of those jobs. Call companies. Most jobs are not advertised. Get your foot in the door any way you can. Good luck!

Your bootcamp place should be able to help you find a job no? Usually they know which places can find Jr developer jobs. Also make sure you have a portfolio and GitHub projects listed!

I agree with @jumpshot44. I landed my first job after building some innovative tools for the crypto currency world. The fact that the technical director didn't understand Bitcoin and I taught myself showed my ability to learn. By building these tools, I demonstrated my ability to apply myself and use what I learned on my own.

You should have done something cool during the bootcamp, show it off.

The good news is the HR trend is to use those experience requirements just to filter insecure people, they really don't care that much.

The bad news is.. it is jist a trend and there are still a lot of stupid old-school hard-headed managers and HR people.

Lol this is exactly how it should be. You just came out of a boot camp wow! You have no experience and you just want a job handed to you.
Knowing how to code is probably half of the skills required to work for a real company. Working as a team is far more important and that can only be proven with experience.

Wow wow wow. I know it's hard and I'm not like...depressed or anything. I'm not expecting jack shit. I'm spending my time learning angular2, vue, and react to be more marketable. I have work experience at a manager level. It's hard to break into an industry with literally 0 experience....that being said it's amazing how resistant this industry is and how unwilling it is to even bother giving any one a chance to prove them wrong. Get off your high horse.

I know it sucks but you should apply for a junior position as it is much easier to find a job when you have some experience. What country are you in?

When I posted for consultancy jobs it was the same pain & no gain. 'any project experience with spring framework?' nope but it's only a framework and I'm a quick learner. 'any project experience with struts?' Again, no but.. 'any project experience...'
    Exactly the same, everywhere.

It's been over 3 years now. Did they finally let you have a job?
