@santartine I think that all genders are fit for programming really. As long as you're committed and willing to learn!

If you can think critically, problem solve, and turn that solution into code, you can be a developer. Gender, sex, age, race, etc have no determination of that.

@linuxxx some male employees (dev or business) are not used to see/work with female developers.
There is one common questions i had in the past, I was asked : are you fine working with male developers? And i was more like : are you fine working with me.

I can understand where the questions come from. Was a bit surprised when i was asked, not because it was offensive but because at first didn't know what to say answer. That quest seemed to be out of topic. But it was funny though :)

Dammit people, stop religiously defending women developers. There are great women developers and I would never dismiss a woman as a dev based on her gender, but you all say woman are equally good as men for development which is not true - more often woman think more creatively than logically so men are more suited to programming, but there's a ton of woman thinking logically and a ton of men thinking creatively which is why we have great programmers in women and terrible programmers in men, but a generalisation that someone is good or bad for programming based on gender is universally idiotic and that's what's the problem, not saying that woman are good or bad as programmers.

@Bikonja this is a very flat comparison of a single aspect, logic is something your brain can develop, and I think people who are also creative can find much simpler and neat out-of-the-box solutions than their logical mates. A brain is a muscle, therefore if you train women to believe in their abilities and practice on them, their abilities are practically limitless

@matanl you can train anything, but when someone is not built for something they'll never be able to excel in it, regardless of training plus it takes a lot more training to be good at it. I never said that women, even the ones that don't think logically, can not be decent developers. They will have a harder time to become decent developers, though. Same as most men will have a harder time becoming interior decorators than a woman will... It's just the genetic predispositions, has nothing to do with quality of the human being and is not a catch-all rule without exceptions... Most cases are like that (which does not say that a person is either better or worse in general), some are not like that... You can't pretend that everyone is equally good at everything, that's just not true... Some people are better at some things than other people... And on average, men are better at logical thinking than women... That does not mean that either are superior to the other...

@Bikonja Do you have some valid research citations to protect your claims? Also, do you realize that saying that affects women psychologically and make them not even try to program because "it might be too hard" for them? Take care of your words.. It just seems like common chauvinism without academic citations.

@matanl that is based on seeing a lot of people, both male and female, try and think logically. It's not a clinical study. And anybody who is offended by what I wrote is a narcissistic idiot. You can't possibly think you're excellent at everything in the world. Noone is great at everything and not being good at something does not make you a better or worse person, it makes you - you.

@Bikonja if you educate women on the fact that they suck at programming, they won't even try, there's a lot of academic research on that. For example, women begin to think they are worse at mathematics since they're 5, even though they score the same on mathematics tests at that age.

@matanl so don't tell them half-truths. Tell them the full truth which would even make them feel better since if they struggle they'll be able to write it off as being genetically predisposed to struggling with that and if they don't struggle they can feel even better since they have a lower chance to not struggle, yet they are not struggling... If you tell them that they suck and that's it then yes, I agree you're a moron, but that's not what I said nor is something I would like to hear anyone say. Just because someone has a lower chance of something doesn't mean they shouldn't try it. A percentage != 0 && percentage != 100 just means that there's a (100 - percentage)% chance for the other outcome...

@Bikonja yes but you still didn't convince me that women are born with a less logical brain yet, my claim is that it is a result of our culture and education that they might train their logical brains less. If you don't prove otherwise you are the exact person who spreads half truths and causes damage to women choices.

@matanl nor do I want to convince you, I'm simply stating what my experience is based on interacting with both sexes. YMMV... But in my experience that is the case. Don't really care what the "studies" say and don't really care that it's that way since I can still see a guy who can't think logically to save his life and a woman who can be incredibly logical so whatever... I just hate when people insist that there are no differences just because it means someone is not as good at something so they want to console them... Console them by telling them what they ARE good at, not by lying to them...

@anadya :) I still have an hour and 15 mins before I get off work and I'm completely drained, I'm hiding my procrastination now :)
Good luck with your production issue
