Not really a rant, but a question for all of you devs stuck in a really bad company. And I mean 'stuck', as in certain situations that don't allow you to switch jobs at the moment and you have to put up with your job.

What do you tell yourself everyday to go work on something even when your manager doesn't care, your project hits a dead end, the company that you work for is a shit show of a fucking circus, and your career seems bleak from every angle? Have you guys ever had an existential crisis as a dev?

@sylflo Thank you for your kind words. The reasons to stay are not family related. I'm stuck here because of some visa related complications. And I live by myself in a distant foreign land from my home. I guess, I just need to distract myself from my personal situation to focus on my job. Although, I wish it came easy to me. But this devrant community, the laughs, and the shared misery (lol), have all been so helpful when things seemed so dark. Thanks @dfox @trogus and the team, for everything.

@soybeanpirate sorry to hear you're stuck in an uncomfortable situation. One thing that's helped me hold on to hope is the phrase "It's all temporary". Whatever shit you're going through, it's not going to last forever, and that light at the end of the tunnel can keep you moving forward.

Another approach I've found useful in my career is to use your current shitty job to plan ahead for your next job. Find job listings for what you really want to do and make it your mission to acquire all those bullet points of skills and experience, whether that means taking classes at night or watching tutorials or finding some excuse to use a new hot technology at work. Never become complacent and you'll make it out better and stronger. Good luck!

Thanks a lot, @trogus . I definitely needed to hear that, and that is exactly what I've started doing! :) Hopefully, I can add some useful skills to my Résumé during this lull! Once again, thank you for this platform! :)

@sylflo I'm in the US. But, I don't have a lot of people of my age in my area or my workplace. So it's hard to find a person who shares similar interests. But nevertheless, thanks for your concern! We should have a DM option on devRant to exchange contact information among fellow ranters! :)
