    To be honest, I still think HTML cannot be considered a real programming language.

    HTML5 + CSS3 are Turing complete. Therefore, the combination can actually be considered a programming language, or at least equivalently powerful as one.

    Your saying that "HTML is a programming language" hinges on the distinction between "declarative" and "imperative" programming languages, but this conclusion is naïve, as it ignores another distinction:

    "programming languages" and "markup languages" are different, and each can either be declarative or imperative.

    An imperative programming language would be something like C. A declarative programming language would be Haskell or Eve.

    An imperative markup language would be postscript. A declarative markup language would be XML or..... HTML.
