Am I the only one who is still using Windows 7 for non geeky stuff?!
Fuck your updates, dear Microsoft. Fuck them.

Have fun, I guess. Windows ten is so much better for me, never had an update issue or anything, been running it since release. I have no love for 7

    How about Linux?

    Couldn't resist. 😀😀😀

Win10 is bloody spyware; no thank you.

Win7 until I finish my current work projects, then off to Mint! 💚

@Ashkin With default settings Windoze 10 really is spyware (builtin keylogger etc.) but you can disable most if not all of these anti privacy "features". After that it feels really great and much more usable in my opinion. I use it since it's out (only on laptop is Ubuntu) it is fast and the multi desktop feature helps a lot while developing. ;)

Well, you can disable the 'features' it tells you about, and there's registry settings/hacks to disable a few more. but given these, I obviously worry that there's more I don't know about. Furthermore, everyone in our house that has used it has run into problems, be they random freezes/restarts, compatibility issues, driver issues, or just outright slowdown. My girlfriend's laptop regularly slows down enough that it takes several seconds to register keypresses until a reboot. They're muggles, but they haven't had nearly as many issues with previous versions. (There's also the one-way upgrade issue: I don't want to be stuck on Win10...)

These (and other reasons I'm forgetting) plus a few less important ones like disliking its flat theme makes me quite adamant against using it.

Conversely: Mint is beautiful, stable, and honestly a better overall choice for dev work. Besides, I'm more comfortable in Bash anyway.

I think I'll keep Win7 around for gaming.

@Ashkin If you like & know Linux, then it would be the best choice. I really love it on my laptop and every time I'm in windoze, I miss all those neat terminal stuff you have on linux...

@ the Windoze problems mentioned: I have not experienced them except for one when i had major lags even when moving the mouse, but was like 1 year ago. I always keep drivers & OS up to date, maybe thats why I had so few problems...
I have installed 10 on more than 25 PCs & laptops and not heard of major problems. Could be magic ;)
