We've had tabs vs spaces, gif vs jif, but how about S Q L vs sequel? Which one do you prefer? I'm in camp sequel.

I ally with both camps, that way I can always find friends on the winning side if war breaks out.

I'm in camp 'S-Q-L', considering it's an acronym. I'd only say 'sequel' if it was actually called that

For USA - Sequel. While abbreviation is an Americanism, so is brevity as ease of pronunciation. "see - kw uhl" is two syllable, and easier to say than three syllable "es - kyu - el".

@ToshNeox What if it was originally called Sequel? The acronym initially stood for "Structured English QUEry Language"

@shittywebdev Youre absolutely right, they couldnt actually call it Sequel because they couldnt trademark that name.

My old colleague used to call it "squeal" saying that "every time you work with it you end up squealing." He was painfully uneducated in general, mainly plain ignorant, which is why he couldn't wrap his head around the simplest database administration tasks. He wasn't a dev, just a sysadmin.
