Someone at work asking me about whether the controller system for our door security can access the Internet. I'm explaining that the reason they can't access Google on it is that it is on an isolated network for security. They wanted to install some remote desktop software on it that some idiot had recommended.
Then I actually get asked: "If it can't see Google... Maybe can it see Firefox?"

    @magicMirror certain people in the company being given jobs that don't fit their role basically. Business manager was somehow put in charge of dealing with the company that installed the site entry system. Ultimately I think they didn't like what I had to say about it when it was first being discussed and rather than take my concerns on board and addressing them, they decided to give the task to someone who can't tell the difference between a website and a browser. Which is why (much like our printing solution which went through the same process) it doesn't work properly. One day they will realise that the reason I ask so many questions and raise so many issues is to ensure that things are done properly and actually work!

    @shiv379 same here.
    I had to explain to an IT person from the main office that we needed to put our dev computers - using wired LAN on the same subnet, as our dev phones connecting via WiFi. He said ok, and went ahead to create two subnets, - one for office computers, one for WiFi, and setup a firewall between.
    Screaming about it did not help. Using usb WiFi dongle to setup non compliant hot spots did help.

    @magicMirror that's the point where you start to question: stupid, or sadistic?

    @shiv379 stupid. It was based on an old power struggle between the IT infrastructure team, and the engneering. For some bizzare reason one answered to the CTO, and the other to the COO.
    The stupid things that happend because of it...
