I know most people will be unable to relate here, but FUCK THE FRENCH PC KEYBOARD LAYOUT

FUCK YOUR STUPID ASS ALT-GR (right alt that acts as modifier while the other alt is used for shortcuts, but can't be combined with ctrl because that would make an alt-gr) THAT GIVES YOU ACCESS TO | ON THE F*IN 6 KEY AND \ ON THE F*IN 8. FUCK YOUR USELESS ASS ² KEY, THAT ONLY WORKS AS A ². NOBODY EVER USED THAT KEY FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN COMPLAINING THAT "you know, I really hate the ² key, it's absolutely useless"

THE MAC LAYOUT IS 100 TIMES BETTER, WITH MORE GLYPHS ACCESSIBLE WITHOUT THAT RETARDED "special characters" MENU. WHOEVER DESIGNED A KEYBOARD THAT REQUIRES PEOPLE TO USE THAT MENU EVER IS THE ONE I'D CALL SPECIAL. NEVER HAVE PEOPLE REFRAINED FROM BUYING A MAC BECAUSE OF THAT LAYOUT, SO START USING THAT LAYOUT INSTEAD OF THAT RETARDED, ANTI-DEV PC LAYOUT...

Here's the French PC keyboard layout, notice how every useful key for devs have been placed to maximize annoyance, minimize typing efficient and accelerate ergonomically related diseases

This issue actually got me mad to the point that I actually went and modified the layout file on my Linux and created a Windows layout to make the keyboard less shitty while retaining all normal pc keyboard behaviours so people don't get confused by symbols mismatches. I did burn the ² key though.

I already get pissed off by ISO keyboards (big enter, \ in the wrong place) vs ANSI keyboards (sexy enter, everything in the right place).

Do you have to rebind the keys, if a game is using wasd?

@JoshBent Usually, Devs take care of that for us, but we do have to do it sometimes. It's not that bad, we know what'll probably go wrong, so it's a quick fix, and it gives us the opportunity to tune other controls to our liking

Belgium uses azerty as well. When I was a kid my dad always used qwerty but I found that weird. Later when I got into programming I realised how bad azerty is for programming. Now I have a mechanical qwerty keyboard and a compose key for when I need accents (which isn't that much in dutch).

I usually have my keyboards in English layout even though I'm Spanish. People don't understand, but most developer stuff (languages, tools, etc) are designed with this layout in mind.

At the end of the day I only switch to Spanish layout when I need to use the ñ and other specific stuff with Ctrl+Shift ;)

@bittersweet Well, I actually enjoy the bigger enter more. But that's personal preference.

@byIcee Yeah but there are correct preferences and wrong preferences. 😜

Nowadays all new computers bought here have Scandinavian keyboards (ordinary werty with å after p and ö,ä efter l). My fingers still remember the international/US keyboard layout that used to be predominant on home computers some 25-30 years ago...
