My trusty old Nexus 5 had a broken microphone for a long time (only worked on speaker phone) and a couple of weeks ago the display died as well. Yesterday, I decided that I can't afford a new one so I took it apart. After a while I had successfully repaired both the microphone and display with small pieces of tissue paper. I guess anything is possible when you're a stubborn problem solver!

Good job! I hope my nexus 5 won't die like that. It's doing a pretty good job right now. If people would know how easy it can be sometimes to repair "broken" devices instead of just buying new ones......

    Please explain more
    My Nexus 5 also dead,
It works without issues but screen is just displaying g light and if it displays content it doesn't respond to touch, also mic will not work u less I press the area just under the camera
Took it apart but didn't k ow where to start.

What exactly you played with so I can try

@gitpush Sounds like you have the exact same mic problem. I put a little piece of paper on the connector and then I put the panel back on the motherboard. This applies constant pressure on the connector.

Your screen problem sounds a bit different though. Mine just didn't work at all. But it might still be the connector. Try taking off the speaker (below the battery). This will reveal a daughterboard with a connector for the screen (the big highlighted connector in the middle of the picture). Try unplugging it and plugging it back in. You will then have to reboot your phone to get the display to work unlike the mic. If this works, you can put a piece of paper or something on that connector and then put the speaker back.

    Not my picture btw.

@gitpush yes the Nexus 5 is such a great phone. Never during the ownership of this phone, have I wished for a different one. And I still don't even though it's 4 years old.

I had broken front mic, so I sent it to authorised servis an when it came back after month, mic wasn't working and even audio jack too. Fuck Lenovo services in Czech republic.
