Being an apprentice programmer in a Ludum Dare (Create a game in 72h) that knows more than the official programmer, and have an artist in the group who makes THIS PIECES OF ART!

She didn't even had a computer to work with it, neither she asked for one to the event, so eventually she used mine... And I could not do my work.

Did I mentioned that she used PAINT to color the images?

This is a long, looong story, I'll do the complete version soon...

God.

@jsframework9000 Sure it is, but we ended using a 3d unity cube because we had no animation! 😂

    😆 ouch!

Actual PAINT or MSPAINT? If MSPAINT then that girl has skills.

@CodeKill The Paint we always used to draw when we were bored as kids

    (And still do)

@LordDjigo ah ok, so mspaint then.

I thought those red circles on the frog's face were his eyes.

Good grief, is your artist 10 years old? What makes one think this person totally has the skills to be part of a game creation challenge if she doesn't even have a computer?

This goes beyond getting an artist or even coder who's just starting and learning.

@Raghnaid Think she was about >25 years...

I know... It was a pain in the ass looking at my game, then turning back and see how other teams were doing awesome 2d pixel arts and 3d models...

Yeah! Fuck all newbs! Be an expert or don't even try!

I mean, sure, complaining about the faults of others is easier then confronting your own short comings and inability to function within a team. Especially when you know more then the official programmer.

After all, unity may have a 2d engine capable of bone based animation of still images. Not to mention it's the job of the developer familiar with the engine to let the art team know what they need. And some would say that simple placeholder art is better than nothing. But that's stupid, 3d cubes all the way bitches.

But seriously, working with incompetent people you don't know, or don't like can be terrible, and I feel your pain.

I may be off base, but I think if you were doing this with friends then the lack of competence, if present, would have been less of an issue.

Sometimes you just work with what little you have, and if you do your best and help each other out then what you make - while not great or good - may be something you can be proud of.

Unless the other people are all dicks, then fuck that noise.

@nerd-san Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or serious.

There's a fine difference between "artist who is just starting out and doesn't have good art yet" and "has no bloody clue what they are doing and art is definitely not their field."

And I say this as someone who often tells people to just grab a pencil and sketch daily if they want to learn to draw.

@LordDjigo over 25? She's either more of a traditional artist who's more comfortable with canvas and brushes than digital media (and nothing wrong with that), or she really went to the event with zero clue of what to do. I know some are just starting out but knowing a little about the basics goes a long way.

@Raghnaid It was not the first time that she participated in the Jam, so she should not be clueless about what to do...

She just came with an empty sketchnook, a pencil, and a rubber eraser, drawed all those things, then took a photo of it, and started trace everything on Paint, then erased the background and started to color everything with that tool that fills empty spaces..

(We had Photoshop in our computers)

@LordDjigo ... Not her first Jam and yet she participates with no laptop and no basic knowledge gained between events?

I could still understand the "no laptop" part if she didn't have the finances for one, but you're telling me she has been in other jams and didn't get a clue of how things are developed nor paid attention to other game artists?

Good grief. I'm unable to find a single pixel of sympathy for her.
