    You seem like a joy to work for. Why are your developers working with customers?
  • 2
    I’m confused. Some rants suggest you’re a student, some that you work, and this one that you run a company. However, in all of them, particularly this one, you come across as a bit of a know-it-all, arrogant ass. Hard to tell how much of it all is true.

    @projektaquarius because we are just 5 people and do it security for govs and secret services etc. We sell good code, not graphics and user experience. Most of the time our clients are devs too and dev to dev works best in this case. And i am a joy to work for, if you dress appropriate.

    @Shura nah. Any boss who thinks "my word is gospel" is definitely not a joy to work for. I don't work for dictators.

    I never got a tech degree so i have to redo that, recently quit my job because i could now do this, im doing professional work since im 14.

    And with professional work i dont mean websites or smth like that, mostly encryption. Had a lucky connection over a lawyer.
  • 2
    May I ask what is your problem with hair and clothes?
  • 0
    I dont have a problem, the clients do. Well, i dont like the woodcutter look.
  • 3
    I hope you pay them well to tolerate you / your company for this kind of requirements.
  • 1
    I don’t know. There’s just something about this all doesn’t add up. “Professional” since 14? On what measure? Gov’t/secret service encryption with few qualifications? You’re a bit of a prodigy, aren’t you? The world is clearly very lucky to have you.

    @Alice

    My thoughts exactly.
  • 1
    Well, as you people dont exactly understand the problem here's some context: The girl(genetically a guy) didnt shave for atleast a week and showed up in a fucking pink dress. The clients where from a bit more conservative state (think something like middle east). We got fired because they didnt felt taken seriously, and that was a quarter million euros PER YEAR. that's something you devs-only dont get: money still needs to be earnt, just good code wont get food on the table. Business relationships are complex and very fragile. I dont complain about her showing up in the dress at work, it's still in the range of the bylaws, i complain about her not thinking twice what she was doing.

    And to the people who dont want to work for a "dictator" trust me if there isnt someone to keep you people in check the whole place falls apart. Someone has to play uncle tom or you people behave like savages.

    @Shura @alice

    Could be prepping for laser hair removal. In that case, you're not allowed to shave I believe.

    I dont have the qualifications, thats the reason i dont do the meetings. We got 2 guys tho who got top notch qualifications, they are practically the face of the company.
    And everybody signed a contract which includes these requirements, and they're all well payed. Nobody makes less then 5K a month.

    @Shura yes but when you allow your customers to dictate company policy you're going to stop having a company because you are going to start losing your people. And what about cis-women with polycystic ovary syndrome? They have a tendency to develop thick facial hair. Would you berate her the same way? Because then you are facing a discrimination suit that can also cost you money/your company. I understand business very well thanks, and if you develop a reputation as a pain in the ass to work for, you won't be in business very long.

    @Shura there's a difference between a dictator and a leader. And a good leader can focus their team without having to "keep them in check". In fact, I have been working long enough that I won't tolerate a manager that tries to "keep me in check"
  • 0
    @projektaquarius well if you can behave and do your job you wouldnt have a problem with me, most older devs get these basic things from my experience. But nobody in this "company" (its more like a startup but i hate that term) is older than 30 so they tend to behave like savages. Im a chill boss but these things just let me burst out of rage, especially if it kills business we desperately need.

    @CoffeeAndHate really that disgusts you? You should really reevaluate your opinion on this matter. I'm a conservative but as long as they don't rub it in my face i'm a-ok with these kind of things. This "girl" is a heck of a dev and i'm glad to have her. Well not today I could kill her.

    @Shura sorry, but that 100% sounds like a management issue. You either have failed to communicate goals, expectations, or vision; or you have not established or have broken trust (this is what your attitude lends me to believe); or you otherwise have them on edge. Seems like you need to have a sit down with your team and realign your team. But you need to look in the mirror first. Young tech professionals are in demand and they know it. Employees obviously leave jobs, but they are most often doing so to leave their manager.

    @projektaquarius well we havent had any incidents like this before and i don't think this was a management issue. I mean she worked around this "issue" before with less sensitive clients, I just don't get why she thought that was a good idea.

    I personally think @dfox should shut this rant down before this becomes a slaughter. This post is offensive, and your attitude and remarks are uncalled for.
  • 1
    @Shura Well, since you, @projektaquarius and @kgbemployee did a pretty good job at keeping this discussion on a high and objective level, which is very good, I don't feel like adding anything smart to it right now.

    Just threw my personal, subjective and probably stupid opinion about this, and probably nobody cares anyway.
  • 2
    Fuck sake, @Shura you sanctimonious, condescending knob! Read this thread and count how many times you’ve used “you people”. Who do you think you are?

    You clearly can’t manage for shit. Everything is the fault of us savages. You are one of those managers who loves and will demand the glory but always looks to blame someone else when things don’t go correctly. Either that or you’re really terrible at presenting your personality accurately.

    There are so many unanswered questions about your story here, but a lot of them seem to boil down to clueless mismanagement and putting people (staff and customers) in awful, unwelcome situations.

    @kgbemployee thank you. In the aftermath I got how aggressive I was but got damit a quarter million euros a year are gone😩😩😩

    @Shura

    That's understandable. And this IS devRant. You can rant all you want about your team, but there are much better ways to do so.

    Social Engineering. Try it. You can make anyone sound like the badguy.

    ...Including yourself.
