Thoughts on ASP.NET (or C# in general)?
I think it's pretty neat, but, well, Microsoft...

@KizuTheMaid C# is available on Linux thanks to .net core too! More natively with a fresh codebase too

It's probably marketing, but MS is very supportive of "open" these days.

Alright, thanks guys. My biggest fear was whether it has limited support for linux, I'm glad to hear it has no problems on that front.

@ThatDude oh ffs, don't bring him here. Don't try to start shit, everyone knows he despises c# and .Net.

@ThatDude regardless of gender (they're using a male avatar, I plead misinformation), they have a vitriolic hated for it. Most posts with people like myself, that like it and them often have a small flamewar. Good reasons or not, it's subjective topic with two sides who give what they believe to be objective answers and it'll only confuse the OP.

I've always found the documentation for .NET to far outweigh other languages. I'm biased, but its my primary language for now.

Here is what you get with C# and .Net in general: good documentation, great community support and one hell of an IDE to support it.
I work with C# everyday at work and at home for personal projects and building apps and sites using MS tech (ASP.NET and UWP). If you are going to put down ASP.NET just because it is by MS then good luck with Laravel.

I actually started liking Microsoft because of C#. Now I might get a Windows phone.

    @Mitiko windows phone is dead.

It’s not bad... C# tends to get the newest features early.

Having the Java guys tell me how cool these lambdas are in 8 was funny because I’d been using them naturally for years.

    Same for string interpolation.

Nice to configure connect data sources easily,, easy enough to update config.

    Good language, no real qualms.

It's probably OK for some general processing and scraping and a lot of other stuff.

Took me quite a while to get around the IDE and this whole ecosystem. Things are not made very intuitive with it

    Wouldn't write a web server with C#

C# is a nice language, Visual Studio is also a great IDE, I just find c# to be lacking on awesome 3rd party libraries comparing it to java but the built in features in c# are a plus I like both c# and java 😂

@AnonymousMooCow windows Phone is dead... Long live windows 10 mobile 😎

I can't stand Windows Phone. I feel so locked out, as though I have no control over my device. In fact, I liken the experience to one of those "Android for kidz" overlays that limit what you have access to.

In all honesty, I miss Symbian.
