SSDs are magic! -
bahua131396yLinux shuts down just fine for me on my machine. Faster than startup, which only takes about ten seconds.
My Windows 10 VM starts up in about 7 or 8 seconds, but takes about 20 seconds to shutdown. -
Noob64856yPeople who say that Windows starts fast either have never used windows or have only tried booting a freshly installed windows xp on a new rig.

@Noob yeah sure sure sure ... what about people that rant about linux start or shutdown slow? I bet in that case is not possible right?
p.s.
anyway 5 or 10 seconds at the end of working day will not change my productivity or life -
@bahua end of working day switch off pc, eventually apply updates, next day switch on without need to wait updates... Total working time lost for updates: 0

Sure, though for my purposes, I'm happy I don't have to worry about it at all, as I don't have Windows on anything but a VM. -
@Electrux wow you mean enable standby according to opne/close the lid exactly like any other os?... Apple is amazing /s

Noob64856y@dontbeevil every software cab run slow.
Linux has extremely high potential to run slowly due to it's ability to be changed by the user.
Even a wrong config and a heavy GUI will make it slow AF.
The point is - every program can act slowly, but some programs can't run fast when not fresh and clean. Windows is one of those. It's a design thing. Every application makes the whole OS slower. So a freshly installed OS on a gaming rig on an SSD will boot in seconds. Use it for two years and it will boot in 20, 30 and more. -
@Noob that's my point, I joke o purpose about linux... Because linux nazis complains only about windows and when it's up to linux they have to find some purpose

Root830146yWindows: cold to fully up in ~45 seconds, including longer bios delays (it amuses me that my system boots to a drive that isn't in the boot list). Powers off in ~20 seconds. I haven't reinstalled Win7 in three to four years.
Linux (mint+kde): cold to up in 25 seconds, including bios delays. Powers off in 5 sec.
