The charging port on my Galaxy S8 is messed up and is constantly disconnecting while charging, which results in the phone either slow charging or just got charging at all.

I thought I got the monthly phone insurance through Verizon and I was just gonna pay the deductible and get the phone replaced, but apparently I don't actually have the insurance even though I could've sworn I did. So that option is out the window.

So now I'm left with 3 other options:

1.) Pay $100 to get the charging port repaired at a local repair shop
2.) Pay off the remaining $200 I owe on the phone and get a phone upgrade from Verizon (because I am due for an upgrade)
3.) Get the upgrade but still keep my current phone on my plan and just pay the remaining $200 off monthly like I have been since I got the phone, except I'd also be paying for a second phone. Which is fine, because either way I'd be paying the $200. It's just a question of paying it in a lump sum or paying it monthly. Either works for me, it's $200 both ways

The downside of upgrading now is that I wouldn't be able to get the Galaxy S10 when that comes out, and that's what I've been waiting for as I prefer the smaller Galaxy S phones over the Galaxy Notes.

I suppose I could trade in whichever phone I get when the S10 comes out, but that would be a huge hassle and I'd have to pay at least 50% of the phone off in order for it to be eligible for trade-in

Decisions decisions.

    Wireless chargers?

If you can solder (or can find someone else with some solid soldering skills and a good station), you should be able to replace the port.. it's a pretty small thing in there though, and if memory serves me right it's also got dual rails of connectors. So it's a pretty difficult process to remove. To place it back, it should be a similar process to any other flat SMD packages though.. bridge the whole thing, then wick off the excess.

Could be a circuit fault though. It'd be strange to have the connector with so many pins just disengage itself from the board. Or maybe the most obvious - the charging wire being faulty?

@neodite I charge my phone a lot a lot while driving, so ideally I'd like the port to be working. I should grab a new wireless charger though

@Condor I know one guy who can solder, and he runs the local repair shop I mentioned so understandably he'd charge me for it hahaha. He mentioned that these phones are a real pain in the ass to fix

If it didn't involve soldering, I'd do it myself at home because I've fixed a bunch of phones. But alas, I have no soldering equipment

I've tried multiple charging cables, so it's not that. From what I've read, this is a common problem with the S8s. The charging port itself just gets worn out

@ElbowDeepInElmo Ah, I see. As for the Samsung S8 port.. sounds like a feature, courtesy from shitty designs and chintziness from wanketeering/Muntzing folks (:

I thought USB C was supposed to be durable. Did you try different charging cables? Also check if Pocket Monster did a nest inside the connector.

Also, some phones have usb connector on a small daughterboard. Both easy and cheap to replace.

@electrineer Yeah I've tried multiple cables. I've read that this is a common problem with S8s, seeing as it was the first year that Samsung used USB-C in the Galaxy S line of phones
