My company just announced we are leaving Slack for Google Chat because it is a "superior" (and cheaper) tool.

Well, why didn't you consider switching to avian carriers instead of Google:

Both'll shit on your head if you give them the chance (less likely with the chicken for anatomic reasons).

Both will deliver your message, but with the avian solution, you'll need two different kinds of hardware (chicken for internal, pigeon for external transfer). Caring for the hardware also costs money and you need an intern to feed them and clean up their shit - slight advantage for GChat.

But - neither the chicken nor the pigeon will use your message content for advertising (or advertise to you at all) and they don't snitch on you.

So, might your company move to AvianServices instead? Act now, while supplies are still somewhat cooperative (the intern's holding them, but he's been up for 45 hours and we're running low on amphetamines to keep him awake)...

At least you're not switching to ms teams .. or whatsapp business...

@xewl I mean anything is a step down at this point. I am not going to be proud of them for not picking something even worse. Bad is still bad.

Use a slack integration that just bridges the two.

@ewpratten Would that I could. If if I could that still doesn't resolve the issue that we won't have the benefits of a paid Slack account if spin up a free account for our own department.

This seems stupid, but you can use discord. It’s a carbon copy of slack and completely free

@Carcraftz While I do love Discord. I am sure our corporate suits would not.
