Open source can't be free unless it builds upon itself, utilising only decentralised networks and redundant pieces of software that follow the principle of doing one thing and doing it well.

PS. Systemd might have managed to avoid this fate the same way Linux did; by having so many contributors that an acquisition is practically impossible.

@Lor-inc ok but npm wasn’t that way from the start. It was a seed money project and the investors were starting to wonder how they’d get paid back.
