I'm going to build a PC. Everything is done besides of the GPU.

I wanted to go full team red, but it turns out that the RX 5700 XT has a lot of driver issues.
I watched a hell lot of YouTube videos, benchmarks, forum posts, reddit, ...
Everyone is complaining about driver issues that haven't been fixed since the launch of the product.

That makes me want to go to team green and buy the NVIDIA 2070 SUPER GPU.

I post this as some sort of rant, but also as some sort of advice seeking post to double check my decision before I buy the 2070 SUPER.

    I've never regretted buying Nvidia

I'm happy so far with my 5700XT. Drivers now are better than before, but yeah, you'll have less trouble with NVidia.

@molaram I will play on a 1440p 144Hz monitor on highest settings on windows (unfortunately), do video processing and programming on Kubuntu.

Gonna use windows purely for gaming. Everything else will be done on the linux side.

[I said some time ago that I will avoid windows, but it's not really doable because games are currently build with a focus on that os.]

@molaram yes, playing as in enjoying a game by interacting with it by using controllable elements.

Video processing as in cutting, adding vfx, sfx etc to videos and rendering videos with a video editing software.

Have you looked at second hand hand Nvidia 10 series GPUs ? (1080 or 1080ti)

Rumors are starting to circulate about Nvidia 30 series (ampere) & RDNA2 so buying new now might not be the best

Also, the Nvidia 20 series was disappointing regarding price and performance compared to the 10 series gpus

I think the rule is "don't buy nvidia if you plan on using Linux" because of their drivers

@electrineer exactly, but apparently both sides are having driver troubles with it. (apple os excluded obv.)

@MagicSowap I do not want to buy a used video card. I can't trust the seller who used it.
Most of the time no warranty and it has been overclocked and/or used that way for a long time.

I want a clean, unused video card with a warranty for it.

@-ANGRY-STUDENT- at least amd tries to fix their problems

@electrineer I think the rule is "don't use Linux if you intend to use anything other than a raw 80x25 terminal".

Actually I never had any problems with my GTX 1080 on Manjaro (I love mhwd) or Ubuntu using proprietary drivers. Even my laptop with Intel Nvidia 960m is working fine. Don't know how nouveau is doing, but I accept using proprietary drivers for my GPU.

@Fast-Nop you are the master of hyperbole. I don't know how anyone could surpass you at this point.

@Wisecrack Now that's exaggerated, so you did. ;-)
