Why am I so addicted to monopoly lately... Even though I know rationally it's pretty much all luck....

    You're in prominent society - Google is into monopoly, too.

    It isn't about luck at all. Everyone can make it if he just works hard enough. Just like in the real world.

    Monopoly isn’t luck, it’s math.

    @shoop The dice rolls aren't quite random because there's two of them. So there's a non-uniform distribution similar to Backgammon. That's what the picture showed, that some places are more probable to land on than others, and the first one who gets there can and should buy. Just like there's strategy in Backgammon.

    @heyheni afaik it's luck. While least most landed on is right but the strategy seems to be either get all the oriental to hotels or boardwalk park, build a few houses there.

    Basically properties where the returns for a single landing is super high. One landing and the player will be crippled to the point that they cannot recover.

    When you get hit by a big bill and have to sell all ur houses and mortgage all ur properties to pay it, you know your screwed. Unless the other guy lands on a Community and draws the Pay ... For each house + hotel card.

    The summary screen said it the best. The huge diff in what's paid is based on which player filled their land with at least 2 houses. For most blocks, the biggest payoff is between opening 1 vs 2 houses.

    In the end what matters is that it brings joy 😄

    Where do you play it, steam? @billgates

    @heyheni Android

    Usually vs PC at 4x speed, online gameplay too slow with all the animation and lag...

    luck definitely plays a part, but some people have amazing bouts of strategy in it. I closely correlate it to actual business decisions and by that account my father is fucking unbeatable in this game. We all hate playing with the dude cuz he goes apeshit on his game.

    Dude is also great at texas hold em but we don't let him play anymore on account of an increased chance of him lapsing into a gambling addiction :V

    @AleCx04 what's his strategy though? If no one trades then he's screwed? Granted u can't easily tell how much money or which properties players hold with the real board game.

    Maybe he just has rely good memory, can remember all this information?

    @billgates he told me that he normally estimates the places in which people are "most likely" to land that would hurt them the most on the first few rounds of the game after purchasing of properties becomes available. He makes a big gamble since he starts buying like a maniac at the start of the game while keeping just enough to help him survive. Luck plays a big flipping role in that he would seldom get hit hard from his landings. He always goes for the places in which people lands the most and if he identifies that another player is hell bent on getting a property in particular he will buy said property and use as leverage to make other deals. That is how he forces people to make deals with him.

    Its all good, I can't touch him on Monopoly, but sure give him an ass whooping in Chess and Go

    @AleCx04 I thought usually the first few rounds everyone buys whatever property they land on? Otherwise you would put it up for auction?
