A colleague of mine worked 1,5 day solving a programming challenge in our project. Today I thought of another possibility, wrote it in half an hour, and showed it.
I got a speech about teamwork and that I should learn it. I feel bad about it, but should I?

Depends how you went about it. Think about whether you came across as helpful or a smart ass.

People can be touchy about stuff like that, and programmers have a reputation for not having the best people skills.

It was definitely not my intention to offend. It was more like: I continued with your script and ended up like this, what do you think?

IMO being open to ideas and different methods will only improve you. If they're not receptive to finding different and potentially better ways it's their loss.
