Jilano273044yCongratulations! Am I hearing s party soon? (With social distancing and the like, of course)
π» -
dmonkey23094ydespite my happiness about it and my best wishes for you to have more space for yourself...

Bte congrats!! -
Haha always a bunch of hippies reacting with some deep-rooted prejudice against property ownership or something.
Owning a house can be tough in terms of maintenance and financial risk, but it is also very liberating.
Difference with a landlord: A landlord tends to be a personal abusive relationship where they won't repair your sink if they don't like you, and you can't switch landlords without moving. Your rent contract means nothing, until you spend a fortune on legal representation.
When you own a house, you have debt with a bank, but it's a much more professional relationship where the mortgage contract is upheld from both sides -- and if another bank offers a lower interest or you win the lottery, you are free to end your mortgage contract without moving.
Buying a house was the best decision of my life. Sure, I STILL have a leaky roof, but I OWN MY DAMN LEAKING ROOF.
No one's fault that it leaks, except for the rain and me. -
@Jilano spiders are cool, they help get rid of the bugs (all kinds π) & afaik root ain't in australia?! O.o am I wrong?!
-
Jilano273044y@sladuled Yes, but what if it's an angry one?!
Also you're right: "Your @Root is in another desert." -
@Jilano well he/she can be angry in a distant corner where they release anger on stüpid mosquitoes.. xD
I like spiders & try not to harm them.. unless they make huuuge effort to land in my mouth even after telling them that's sooo not ok... xD -

jeeper59824yI know you’ve been working hard towards this! Congrats! π or it’s ok if it’s a bit more like π
-
Root830714y@F1973 I’ve never worked for my landlord, unless you count my parents.
@dmonkey It’s a short update to a very long story π
@bittersweet Absolutely! Owning is always better if you can.
@vigidis The final numbers will differ, but paying double minimums cuts about 70% off the time and we’ll only overpay by 30% instead of 150%+. Shouldn’t be 30 years. It’ll hopefully be 9 or less.
@jeeper It looks pretty nice actually, and it’s very new. We’ll see what the inspector(s) say.

Thanks everyone!
It’s exciting! And a little worrying. -
Wombat106204y@root congratulations! Enjoy your new life.
@bittersweet exactly. I also bought a house this year and can very much agree. -
@Root as far as I remember your housing situation from rants...
Congratulations!
I hope it gets better and you can finally calm down!
Good luck :) -
Root830714y@IntrusionCM If things keep getting better I’m not going to have anything left to rant about, and I’ll fade into devRant history. π

dmonkey23094y@Root fair enough.
And don't worry, if you handled a situation like the one you have been describing you can do anything, seriously βπ -
woo hoo!
Where did you buy? If you feel comfortable saying which area of the world. -
Is this house big enough si you can work in peace without anyone busting your balls finally?
-
Root830714y@jesustricks Yes. It’s two thirds larger than our current (or double; I can’t remember), and it’s in a cooler climate with a large grass backyard (not rock!) so we can actually go outside!
I’ll also have a dedicated office. -
@Root congratulations, I’m actually feeling happy for you after reading all those posts of you losing your nerves about the lack of work space!!!!
-
arfro22884yAwesome news @root!!! Congrats, I'm really happy for you. It'll be amazing, don't be worried dear ♥οΈ

mac-aga20784yMe scrolling through LinkedIn (sees a lady standing next to a building) : achievement unlocked , I bought a house.
Me open devRant , sees top rant : I bought a house.
Is it algo ? Are we in a matrix ?
Me silently screens internally -
@OmerFlame
It was response to your comment that purgatory was being gentrified.
So this is kind of hot topic in the US where middle class families move into poorer neighborhoods and drive up the cost of living forcing the old residents away.
So it looks like Root is gentrifying purgatory!
