Got a job offer. Pays more than my current job (~13% increase) and allows me to commute. However, less freedoms. This is weird to me - the job is for a small firm (20 employees), and my current is huge (~25-30k). Now I can work from home when I need it, and flexible hours (aka, get in whenever I feel like it). New job had in contract "No remote working" and "Work hours are 0800-1600".

Think I'm gonna turn em down.. Fuck being locked down like that, honestly.

Working conditions are so important. Money secondary. Good luck. Let us know what you do.

What are work laws where you live? Does that "0800-1600" imply eight hours of work without a break?

@Jumpshot44 exactly - having the freedom I have today means a shitload to me. I have 2 small kids in kindergarden, and I can't ever pick them up with those hours (nor deliver really). I'll tell them that unless the hours change it's a flat no from me

@kamen no, 30 minutes lunch included. Pretty sure work laws in Norway are way stricter than most other countries :)

Just my 2bits: the freedom to manage your own time is priceless.

They called me back and said I'd get the flexibility I needed.. Fuck I hate decisions like this. :3

@yusijs If they stated that conditions on the first offer, odds are that even if they told you they would let you have flexibility, they won't see it with good eyes. Eventually you'll have a problem.

Whatever they say about giving flexibility, get it in writing in the contract.

Plot twist - mentioned it to my manager that I may take this job, he asked to tell his manager. Talked to the guy earlier, who said he might get his own manager give me a call (managerception ftw). Got a text, gonna call me sometime over the next half hour. Stuff like this stresses me out so much. -_-

    How is it going?

@Linux just got off the phone. Funny story - basically last year we got an extraordinary pay increase, as we were lagging behind in salary (437 000 vs 650 000), so got bumped to 495 000 - he never got that memo so he thought he brought me a sweeet deal - they could offer a raise to 500. I said I felt they should up their game a fair bit, as my current offer is 565k.

Idk though. He said he'd get back to me tomorrow or wednesday at the latest, as he'd need to get approval from his boss again (the joy of mega corps..). Guess I'll sleep on it, and make a decision tomorrow!

as most people have already mention on the forum already:

finding the right person. rehiring and training is expensive too.

So, the new firm gave me a better offer now, and I've decided to take it. While my current job allows me a lot of freedoms, I worry that they will be reduced when my manager leaves in february. In addition his boss talked to me about my tasks in the future, which was more managerial and less dev/ devops oriented. I'm a dev, and don't want a freakin managerial role. The only thing the new job didn't grant was remote working which honestly, I'm fine with - i prefer being in the office, and they put in writing that they'd be lenient as far as doctor visits etc goes.

Also they bumped the pay to 600k which is nice. + 105k from my current job, and can sell one of our cars (which in Norway makes up a huge fucking amt of money). Just gas runs me about 2000 nok / month, and insurance etc on top. Train costs 1100 per month.

All in all, new job, so both me and @h3ll are leaving our corporate jobs at the same time which I find kinda funny. :p
