Linux cause muh Freedom and it's just a dream for development.

Windows is automatically a fail because forced updates are a no-go (beside all the other catastrophic shit), Mac OS...never really used it but from what I know I'd most likely hate it. BSD is probably pretty solid too, but Linux is already annoying enough with drivers.

    None!

Windows is a pain in the ass and that's on a good day, something will fail, some driver will shit its self, some update will fuck you over, and setting up a Dev environment is a royal shit show, just use a VM instead for Dev purposes if you need Linux.

MacOS is to locked down and god fucking expensive for a machine - thanks Apple.

Linux, driver and gaming support is rubbish - and no, fucking around for hours or days even to get things semi stable is no better than windows.

ChromeOS, look at Mac but even worse on the lock-in.

So no, no OS is the best, there's only the one that suits your own day to day needs and that's about it.

RTEMS, because that's not an answer you expected.

hands down: TempleOS; you’re closer to God when using it

Waiting for someone who has tried ALL THE OPERATING SYSTEMS OUT THERE to comment.

For real, though - there is no "best"; there is what works for you and/or for a certain purpose, and that should be all that matters.

I tried Windows and Linux so far, I prefer Linux because it's lighter, because I can customize and script it, because virtualization is a breeze, because installing programs is wonderfully easy and because it lends itself to web development. It's a shame it's not as popular so games don't support it well.

Probably Windows. It just kinda works and gets out of the way which is all I need

If I did more C and C++ probably Linux though
