and yes thats the idea you hit the nail on the head, when it first came out it was pandering to the trends of the time, which were kind of ridiculous.

@AvatarOfKaine there is no limit to what the regeneration brings.
A timelord can regenerate from man to woman and vice versa and he told that he was once a woman. The only limit is that a timelord can regenerate only 12 times, but he was given a new cycle on Trenzalore.
