I feel like there should be a bureau or organization that collects all the fare information and route information from all transportation companies and publishes them under one unified freely available service for trip planning.

Including local buses, subways and light rail.

    That would be intelligent.

.... Which is considered insane in most societies.

We have a few attempts at this in the UK, but the fare information really only works for trains, which are half-heartedly privatised. You want to get buses and possibly a non-tube metro system outside London? Fuck you.

    @IntrusionCM right ?

just like having companies replicate and fix data sources on gis data, roads, traffic statistics and other data.

could you imagine all the freelancers with drones and the like that could update crap like crazy ?

It would destroy a large source of income.

    I speak from experience.

If (regardless of the type of data, be it traffic / bureaucratic / article -/ ...) unified standards exist, a lot of companies would go bankrupt.

    Non standardization is capatalism.

Experience as I've worked in several interdisciplinary fields, be it im-/export of goods worldwide to shop systems to internal solutions for accounting / storage / etc to digitalization of workflows.

One of the main incomes is creating exchangeable information workflows.

Expecially in im-/export worldwide I think I've written and monitored more solutions to accommodate the insanity of what some companies called a enterprise resource system than I can admit.

    JSON in plain ISO-8859-15? Sure.

EBCDIC? Yes, seen it. No fun.

XML without ending tags to reduce storage?! Yeah. Mad shit. (<tag></>)

Article numbers which are reuseable.... Don't remind me. PTSD. Severe PTSD. I think it's one of the reason I sometimes wake up in the night crying.

    And so on...

It's amazing on what bat shit crazy things people hold onto no sane person would ever allow.

Standardization would help, but literally kill a major source of income.

@katvoira its interesting that you can actually get across most of the united states via public transportation, though its cheaper to use something like greyhound or amtrak, but you end up having to walk 15 to 25 miles at some points, through towns of course, unless you're in the desert regions, then you're completely fucked.

there is alot of things i think would make our country better, for instance we have more aging shithole english row home style houses than youd ever beliieve from the 1800s and earlier.

    and they're terrible.

i for example would like to carve the center connecting houses out and fix the connecting points to make more sparsely populated cities with more room for utility and park areas to say for example get the leaking stinking garbage off the curbs that absolutely destroy the ambiance of many of our cities.

@katvoira instead people are literally building new building and tearing them down and letting things degrade longer just to make more work.

we're very very wasteful here now and pointelessly.

I also believe since obviously we don't need our whole workforce active in simply giving people very basic housing they are responsible for and a storage unit in case they loose their job or want to travel they always have somewhere to fall back on and not loose their stuff, and creating more shade areas and the like in cities and implementing more street cleaners and power washing schedules because the dirtiest of our cities are FUCKING DIRTY.
there is lots of work to do here, but noone wants it to get done because its more fun to whine and pretend everyone is lazy etc when we could make the worlk noone wanst to do pay more and also more livable.

@IntrusionCM but we've already seen that in the usa with the creation of software in the first place.

we've seen a reduction in quality of life because of cell phones.

and people here drive for literally no reason, not even for enjoyment or catharsis.

    my countries fucked man.

we literally only need like 70% or so of our workforce to function if that.

many of the older ways of reaching the middle class are gone and many colleges have been taken over by flesh cartels, no joke, and the idea of going to college is also a joke as noone wants to utilize the people with the degrees unless they're specific ones.

its why you hear so much about loan forgiveness and the like.

college, especially science degrees or math believe it or not, or psych, or social sciences is for rich people, we've made it so you can't survive without either selling your ass, or working several jobs which noone does.

would it make you both happy to know how fucking miserable I am that I'm likely 50 something and the world has repeated the same pointless cycle of events over and over and at the end of it all just fucked everyone up and over for no reason ? literally no reason ?

I want to live but i can't if i keep getting pushed out of my ability to live by monsters who want to erase half my life so their chomo asses can pretend to be working and having a good time.
