Manager: we require people to work in the office but we'll give you a space to get as comfy as you want.

Me: *walk into the open space office, set my mechanical keyboard, plug in my noise cancelling headphones, start coding and mumbling every now and then*

Manager: keyboard is distracting others and we don't allow headphones as we want to be able to speak to you when we feel like it.

So 1) peers are annoyed by click-cla ck for up to 8 hrs a day and 2) management don't want to poke you in order to communicate.

My response would be, "Well, here's my two week notice. Best of luck finding and retaining talent." Although, honestly, I would have checked out their corporate culture first. Yeah, I'm spoiled.

@iAmNaN lol agreed. How much someone is willing to pay you has a lot to do with job satisfaction, though I find. If there's enough zeros in my check I'd make that terrible work environment work.

@ninjatini that changes as you get older. I have a kid now and way more important than the money is the fact that I can work from home 3 days a week and take unlimited sick days in case he is sick. Don't get me wrong, I make good money, but I should be making more... but I don't care since home-life is respected.
