    Should be a version of 'the giving tree' => 'the giving computer'

    I use my old PC as a capture pc. Since I have Linux I can't use shadowplay, so I just added a cap card to it and did some software magic :)

    I gave my old computer second life by making it home media center. Just put Arch Linux on it, install Kodi and you got decent way to watch movies.

    I turned my old laptop into a SchoolLaptop (Arch with Gnome) put an SSD into it and used the old 750GB HDD on my Raspi as NFS-Nas.
    If I want to watch Movies I just plug my RPi Zero W (LibreELEC) into my PCs USB-Port (power) attach my TV via HDMI and use my TV-Remote to use it.

    Dont play with my emotion like this dude

    So far my computers have straight-up died on me, saving me the emotions expressed in the cartoon (e.g. "That job was running for *weeks* and now you decide to blow a cap on the motherboard????")

    Then I'm a psychopath.. I salvage every HDD if I can, take the steppers out of the optic drives if I don't need them, if an HDD is IDE I pull out its magnets, every ventilator gets recycled and the PSU is very useful for Arduino projects or just basic electric wire if it's busted

    Well thanks i guess? Now I'm stuck with my PC forever ... 😅😩😐😊

    So far I gave my old PC to my nephew... and 3 months later it's motherboard died. Do you know how hard is it to find the exact same model from ~10 years ago? Still I'm pretty much a tech hoarder - still have and occasionally use my acer aspire one with mint on xfce. Still love this little guy.

    @nalread Wasn't just easier to buy new cheap computer? Or buy used one?
  • 0
    @nalread I also have an old Aspire One running Lubuntu :) This thing still works as fine as it did the day I bought it! 😊

    I cried in the 5-6th after looking at the computer's face...

    Way to soften us up and then rip our hearts out -- just like that computer.

    @Dacexi Dude, OBS + nvenc + Replay buffer = shadowplay but better
  • 0
    @Florens I know, but nvenc is not available on Linux :/
  • 0
    @Dacexi Nvenc is available but this support is just terrible.
  • 0
    @Dacexi It is.

    @LinusCDE Works fine for me?
  • 0
    @Florens Its a hassle installing it. In Manjaro ffmpeg worked not correct after that.
    Maybe I should try it again and my problems are already solved.
  • 0
    @LinusCDE Yeah no I never had any issues with using or installing it.
  • 0
    @Florens @LinusCDE I had to install the Nvidia drivers with no monitor output. I had to memorize the steps. Not going down that rabbit hole again....

    I use my 12(!) Year old PC as a media center with the latest Arch Linux. Connected it to a new TV via vga and use it with Android apps and a wireless keyboard. I even put in a pci WiFi card!
