Tried using Eclipse to practice coding, never understood how to properly set up. It could be not beginner friendly or just a total noob. I think both.

Eclipse has the big advantage that it is very lightweight compared to other Java and Android IDEs. It is in the middle between a text editor with syntax highlighting and a bloated IDE like IntelliJ or even Netbeans. And in terms of bugs I have to say that I have been using it for about 3 years and I can't remember that it crashed even once.
