I like being self taught because I can work at my own pace and try different languages to see what interests me most. But so many of these tutorials are just shit. Or the content is good and the instructor is shit. I may need to just suck it up and go to Uni, but I am 19 and enjoy my time working and my free time. I think it's time for me to grow up soon though.

Watch out, it's easy to become a jack of all trades, master of none.

Well I still want to have fun with my girls and go on dates and such, but I'd like to be a bit more disciplined in my studies so I can be a Dev in a few years. And I plan to focus once I find something that interests me most.

@MissDirection then you'll look forever. Every language has it's benifits and pitfalls. There is no perfect language. Figure out what you want to code (frontend, backend, low level, etc.) and find the most used language is that field. Code is secondary to product.

@MissDirection I wish you well on finding your niche! For me my interests in code have changed every few years and I change what I'm tasks in taking on at work.
Uni will have more or less value depending on your country and your desires. If you want to work freelance your success is highly based off of marketing your skills regardless of a degree. If you want to work for a company, different companies will value or not value a degree.

In any case I recommend pursuing an internship at well known company with a frequent internship program. Smart companies use this as a dual recruiting / interviewing tool.

I'm also learning self-taught, and one cool trick to pass those awfully slow and dull youtube tutorials is to watch them on 1.5 speed. It saves a ton of time.

@QueenCodeSlut, only 19. Plenty of time to learn more.
In my experience you learn more from 2 weeks on your first programming job then from 4 years of uni.

Dutch and single by any chance?

Totally agree with sucking it up and going to Uni. If for nothing else, than for the stories.
