What do you think about having a portfolio website for junior devs? Does it help, does it not? How could I promote mine?

Having a small github page is fine for me. I have one too, and it is very nice...

Ive always found having somewhere to showcase your work / projects helps.

These days with github offering pages you could get away with that for backend work, but anything that requires front end work you would be better off doing a portfolio website and show off your skills showcasing your previous works.

@C0D4 GitHub pages is in my eyes better for frontenders HTML, CSS and JS wil run great on it. Backenders need a portfolio with more backend in it. Setting up the server, custom CMS written for your site. Things like that show people what you can do. Doing backend things on GitHub pages isn't possible...

It’s been a while since I’ve looked into github pages, although I haven’t seen any that show that kind of commitment, might have to revisit those 💡

@C0D4 my front end colleagues all use GitHub pages and Im the only backender and host it with digital ocean.

    I stand corrected.
I didn’t realise they exceeded themed up markdowns, this could be worth looking deeper into after all.

@jAsE im also introverted but I dont mind writing a blogpost about Framework X or something. I dont expect people getting there from google but when I share my site people will see them.

@jAsE when solliciting for jobs, or when I meet people so they can contact me. Sometimes online when i got a blogpost I need to share

My github (& github pages) is all set up, but I was thinking about paying a domain, having like a dedicated website for my profile, skills, etc. I heard good stuff about the idea, but I am also pretty unsure about its usability

@VictorMotogna if you dont expect people visiting your website dont bother, but its pretty cheap so it wont hurt if you do.
