I always used to think that Linux + Intel == <3

And here I am, ordering Qualcom and Realtek wifi cards to replace my Intel one.

Fuck you Intel for removing the lar_disable iwlwifi parameter!!!

People expected that with the GPUs as well. Don't they too stink on Linux so far?

@electrineer I quite like their integrated graphics. I mean, I haven't been bitten by it yet.

@electrineer or do you mean GPUs in general? Intel aside?

@netikras I mean their new line of discrete graphics cards. At least first, people thought they would be as good as the integrated ones but were disappointed. I don't know if it had improved since

I don't know intel graphics sucks for me. It works most of the time, and if it doesn't work it's the weirdest shit. Is AMD better?

I gave that article a quick read and I don't see how Intel is at fault. They are simply respecting each country's regulation.

@daniel-wu Give a quick wifi scan in your apartment/house and tell me how many surrounding devices report the actual country you live in in their beacons.

I live in LT. None of the surrounding devices (neighbours' or mine) reported LT. I saw CN, DE, US,... but none were LT. And it's not like you can enforce a Chinese router to change this setting.

What Intel did, they are using LAR to make their wifi cards look around, see what country others are broadcasting and just mimic them. "do what others are doing". Naturally, since none of the neighbouring WIFI routers are reporting LT, neither will my Intel card. So it gets confused in an "international" environment and says "fuck it, fallback to Global mode, i.e. restrictive".

We used to be able to disable this LAR feature and set the correct country manually, but since '19 EOY we can't any more -- Intel removed the switch.

And how's that about "respecting each country's regulation"?

@netikras well that's the worst possible outcome. It should decide "this place is a shitshow" and decide we're on Mars.

@netikras how can you scan what the neighbouring devices report btw?

@electrineer see my post. I've added an update at the bottom. airodump-ng
