So... it's break time.
I just was eating fries with ranch... dipped my fingers in the ranch as if they were holding fries...then immediately hit Ctrl + z.
Took me a few seconds to realise why it didn't work.5 -
List the top books you consider fundamental to your software engineering knowledge and abilities. A book that really made you improve. Anything, up to you. The point is that without it you would be worse off.
Any topic. Systems design, DSA, security, architecture, doesn’t matter.8 -
I’m running 1.5km every day for two weeks already. Anxiety still strikes sometimes. Depression is measurably better, but it was getting better months ago when I started taking fluvoxamine, so I can’t attribute this to running alone.
Running will help me in another way though: my mental health will definitely be going through the roof when I look in the mirror and see the beautiful, albeit scarred, slender body I posessed before it all started.10 -
how to avoid getting robbed:
1. make a T-pose
2. stride towards the robber
3. start reciting the date of your death over and over6 -
Do you trust github/gitlab/bitbucket? If you self-host, do you trust your hosting? do you trust gitea? if you don't use gitea, do you trust git? do you trust the way you got your copy of git? do you trust your os, as it might have tampered with your git? did you read the code? do you trust your internet connection that might have changed some packets? do you trust your https implementation? did you examine the traffic? do you trust your traffic sniffing tool? if you use your own hardware, do you trust it? do you trust its CPU/bios? if it's risk-v, do you trust chinese vendors of your cpu? they might have put some backdoors there. do you trust your other hardware? okay, you have the money to make your own cpus. do you trust your employees? do you trust your silicon? do you trust the measuring equipment you used to check if your cpu is safe? do you trust the literature in the field? but did you verify it though? did you?
it's always who you trust. if you want to bake an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe.9 -
You were hired, not adopted.
The company is not your family.
The office is not your home.
And your boss is not your friend.
You owe nothing there beyond what you are being paid for.5 -
OK, we all hate Gates, Elon or LTT for some reason. All heroes in my eyes. Ok, I do cringe at some LTT stuff, especially when about Linux.
I've read a book about Gates (Very bad one), about Elon and Jobs. So, I think I investigated well.
But there, a list from people we all hate for some reason. Question is, who's your tech hero?
For me, it's Robert Nystrom. But being a dictator of own project like Torvalds is my dream15 -
So, I'm the engineering leader of a startup. This year, the company hired new directors and with that a new CPO. We've been using Google Workspace and have all our infrastructure on GCP. We never had any trouble with Google products. We also have Google SSO configured in almost every tool out there.
Yesterday, the new CPO, sent me a request to change "just some dns" on the domain. Those "just some dns" were Microsoft 365 mx, cname and text records.
I asked him if he was planning to switch to MS.
He answered: "yes! The team (a new team of marketing) wants to use PowerPoint and Teams".
I don't know you guys, but I hate MS products. They're just bad.
So, yes, it seems that now I'm gonna waste my time switching and configuring everything with MS just because they don't know other tools that are way better than any MS product!
I tried to convince him, this wasn't a good move, but it seems my opinion equals zero at this company.
I just hate this type of product managers that always wants to reinvent the wheel to let others see that they are doing something important when they're not.
Also hate when managers make decisions without ever consulting the people that will be affected by those decisions... But I guess that's how it works in this world...12 -
Ubuntu forgets printers, Mint can't find my bluetooth adapter. Maybe I should stop being proud about Linux and give Microsoft Windows or MacOS another try :-/19

Idk who tosensei and sid keep having fights with, but get the fuck out of here.
I'm tired of seeing your drama (+ new accounts and bitching) in my feed all the time.
Y'all some grown ass bitches, so grow up ffs.3 -
reality: I saw null in the debugger here, causing the bug
add a null check
IDE: you don't need to check for null, this can't be null
what do you do when you can't trust the tools you work with8 -
I love Github copilot, he saves so much time, speeds up the code writing. N understands me at times too.6
